About Kaleidoscope collective
Our story
Kaleidoscope collective was born from a simple but urgent recognition: policies alone don’t save lives, health systems do. We came together as a collective of transnational feminist organisations across the Global South, rooted in Asia and Africa, to work where change is most needed: inside health systems themselves.
Today, Kaleidoscope brings together 17 organisations across four countries, with deep grounded work in Benin, India, Nepal, and Kenya. We combine decades of expertise in movement building, capacity strengthening, and health system advocacy to ensure people can access the reproductive healthcare, including comprehensive abortion care, they need and deserve without stigma, discrimination, or violence.
Our mission
Kaleidoscope is a Global South–led transnational feminist collective working with health systems to transform and expand access to high-quality, comprehensive, compassionate reproductive healthcare, including comprehensive abortion care, for women and girls in all their diversity.

We work across Africa and Asia, with grounded work in Benin, India, Kenya, and Nepal.

What makes Kaleidoscope collective different?
Systems change focus
We drive systemic transformation across health service delivery, laws and policies, health financing, reproductive health commodity security, and provider capacity.
Government partnership at scale
We partner directly with governments at national and subnational levels, building collaborative relationships to drive change at scale.
Global South leadership
Kaleidoscope collective flips traditional power dynamics by centering leadership in women-led organizations. Local partners steer the initiative with the trust and agency to define strategies rooted in their contexts.
Transregional learning platform
Our consortium creates space for cross-country learning and solidarity. Partners share strategies, evidence, and experiences across contexts, strengthening collective capacity and avoiding duplication of efforts.
Unique consortium composition
We bring together organisations with complementary strengths: those who understand cultural barriers, those who can work at scale with governments, and those who excel at grassroots organizing.
Kaleidoscope’s approach and framework
Kaleidoscope takes a systems approach to change. We don’t just advocate for better policies, we work to ensure that health systems are actually equipped, financed, and staffed to deliver the care people need. Our framework operates at three levels, guided by feminist analysis and grounded in local realities.
Laws and policies
Expanded text: We work with governments, ministries, and policymakers to identify gaps between what laws and policies say and what actually happens on the ground. Where legislation is missing or weak, we advocate for change. Where it exists, we push for implementation. Our partners at country level map the policy landscape, monitor progress, and work to hold decision-makers accountable.
Financing and Resources
Expanded text: Reproductive health care including comprehensive abortion care is chronically underfunded across the Global South. We work with governments to analyse health budgets, document the true cost of inaction, and make the investment case for quality care. By supporting ministries to allocate and track resources more effectively, we help build systems that can sustain change beyond any single donor cycle.
Human resources
Expanded text: Even where services exist, stigma and capacity gaps amongst providers mean people don’t always receive respectful, quality care. We support the training, retention, and accountability of health workers and health systems stakeholders, building both the skills and the culture needed to deliver care without discrimination.
Monitoring data helps to drive progressive policies and improve health care delivery to the furthest left behind. We work together with respective governments to identify data gaps, compare facilities performance and manage public resource allocation to further advance access to reproductive healthcare including comprehensive abortion care.
Our feminist framework
Underpinning all of our work is the Gender at Work Framework, overlaid with a health systems lens. This means we address both formal structures — rules, policies, and resources — and informal ones, like exclusionary norms and social attitudes. It ensures that the changes we support genuinely improve the lives of those who have been most structurally excluded.
How we work together
Kaleidoscope’s strength is its collective model. Through linking and learning, capacity strengthening, movement building, and mutual accountability across 17 organizations in four countries, we create an ecosystem where local knowledge drives strategy and global solidarity amplifies it. We don’t impose solutions, we build the conditions for communities and governments to lead their own change.
